Happy Holidays!

by UnknownMami on December 17, 2009

I am not the wisest person in the world, but due to circumstances in my life I learned certain truths early on. This is not the first holiday season that I find myself financially challenged and it does not matter one bit, I will still have a wonderful holiday and this is why:

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt within the heart.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!

This post was inspired by prompt #2 of this week’s Writer’s Workshop.

Amen. I have always loved that quote. We don't have too much extra money this year either. Gary is horrified. He has always had big expensive Christmas'. I don't think Christmas is all about spending money. Always love coming to visit you : )
  • Papayas. Ummm. I am keeping my fingers crossed for your beautiful brown eyes. STAY AWAY from the Internet: Don't do your own "research". Unless you are looking for alternative treatments etc. Even that... I know it is hard to resist the urge, but you will just be so overwhelmed by the horror stories and then get yourself all worked up. :-( {{{{hugs}}}}

Yes, Dick in a Box always brings a smile to my face. :-) So does "People Getting Punched Before Eating". I don't know why...

    Profound Mami! Feliz Navidad!
  • Perfectly said. thank you Helen and unknown mami!
This is not our first financially challeneged holiday season either, nor will it be our last. We traded in the extra cash flow so that I can stay home with our daughter. The "gifts" from this exceptional choice far exceed that which could reside under our chirstmas tee.
  • Wishing you happy Xmas with lots of love .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    hugs

  • So true! If you live life with a thankful heart it doesn't matter how much or how little you have. Have a Merry Christmas!
  • That quote hangs in our room, a gift from my best friend. Mami, I find you quite wise and familiar, like a long lost cousin. Merry Christmas!!

  • I could not possibly agree with you more. Happy Holidays to you, too! :)
  • Happy Holidays!!
  • Oh that is so the right spirit. I love it. I wish fewer people would focus on the THINGS part of Christmas.

I really, really needed this reminder today....thanks for bringing me back to what really matters

    you rock!
  • I agree. I remember a year when we had a welfare Christmas. We were still fortunate enough to be around family (a big family), we were still fortunate enough to have plenty of food but the presents were (according to my parents) sparse. I remember the year dad lost his job (it was a really good job) and how we went on welfare and how mom would cry about accepting help, but I also remember thinking, 'So what, we have food and each other'....there were still presents and I still got a box of crayons and a coloring book. I think I was about seven.

I still remember it being a great Christmas because of being around all the cousins and eating a big meal.
  • That's exactly how I feel. I don't really remember the presents from childhood, but Ihave great memories of family, food, and just plain fun.
  • And a happy holiday season to you as well.

Thanks for the reminder.... as I look over my list of what I have managed to buy and what I would still like to get I needed this reminder.

I have that saying framed in my hallway. I love her other saying "When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us."
I've been staring at closed doors for way, way too long. I'm going to try to find the ones that have been opened for me.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Unknown Mami!
    Love ya,

Such a great sentiment, my friend. I also couldn't agree more. Far too often our holidays are dictated by what we give...or what we receive.

We all need to be more mindful of what the holiday season is really about. Thanks for such a great reminder. :)
  • Happy Holiday's Mami! Hope is full of love, peace and laughter!
    Cheers!
  • Very, very true!
