Fragmented Fridays

I’ve created a monster! I can’t go an entire day without hearing my husband say, “Blog it!” I told him he needs to get his own blog because he is just overflowing with ideas for my blog.

I’ve been in a funk for a couple of weeks. Partly because I lost my job and my husband is laid off. The finances suck, but there is a positive side to all of this: we’ve been getting to spend lots of time together as a family. Put Pie is in heaven with both Mami and Papi around.

Have you ever been to San Francisco in the summer? Summer in San Francisco is not like summer in the rest of California. We get tons of tourists and they pack shorts and tank tops only to find themselves buying sweatshirts with “San Francisco” emblazoned across them. It can get pretty chilly here in the summer. Mark Twain is always attributed (but unverified) as having said, “The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco.”

For years, I have been trying to read “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” by Michael Chabon and just wasn’t making any progress. I was told it was good, but it did not grab me. Well, I finally made it past a certain point and it has totally absorbed me. I couldn’t stop thinking about it last night so much so that all my dreams were about it.

And that’s all she wrote!

The SF sweatshirt thing… LOL! We did that. We ended up buying one of those signature jackets from the pier and now every time we see people wearing one, we laugh at them knowingly!
You should let your husband write a post. Funny Man was doing the same thing to me, telling me “you should blog that” or “here's a blog idea for you.” Finally I said, you want to see it, you write it. – G

It is always so nice to visit San Francisco in the summer time because you can get away from the heat for a little bit. It's all that water and wind!

I have the opposite problem, my wife could care less about my blog. It would be nice to get a suggestion or two from her. Of course if they are non-stop with suggestions that gets annoying.
I remember watching the fog roll into the bay once. Amazing and cooling. Did you take any pictures of that?

My first summer in San Francisco was when I moved there from southern California. I did not own a jacket just a couple sweaters. I decided I needed a jacket the first summer in San Francisco. But I liked everything about that city.

Something will turn up when you need it to. Right now try to relax and enjoy time spent together. Been through San Fran a couple times, and yes, it seemed rather cool for the time of year.

I love San Fran … so out of it, didn't know you lived there. We visited in July about 8 years ago… still one of our best vacays ever!

Sorry to hear about the job woes, hope things turn around for you both soon. My husband lost his job about 10 years ago, and I had just had my son, so I wasn't working either. We stayed an extra year in Salt Lake City trying to find work, but no luck. I, too, remember that one of the positives of that whole mess was the time that my husband got to spend with our son. I've always thought that because of that our son is equally close to both of us which is neat. Not many children get that opportunity.

PS – We used to live in Novato so your comment about everyone buying sweatshirts made me giggle.

I had been in San Francisco, I think it was Fall but it was SO cold, it hurt my ears. My husband said it was the wind.

I found myself spending a fortune in Disney World on sweat shirts..90 all day but when the sun went down..way too cold for me! I was only in SF once when I was young..I kind of remember it being warm..hmmm..

Maybe I'll start sending my hoodies to SanFran. I keep getting long sleeved hoodies in the mail as gifts (birthday, Christmas, etc) and I don't wear them. It's usually pretty warm here in FL, even in the winter. And the winter temps are cold, but since we aren't used to it, we don't hang out outside. (Hmmm, I think I just ranted!)

I was in San Francisco a long time ago in the summer time, as a tourist, and I do not remember it being too cold. I think it is great that your husband supports your blogging! But maybe you are right that he should start his own space to vent his thoughts…

I was planning a trip to San Franciso this summer but instead my daughter and I are driving to Tofino, an island just off of Vancouver, and where it is apparently very hot in the summer! I think we'll plan San Francisco during our winters, when anywhere is usually warmer than where I live!

I love SF in the summer. Although, I am sure I am one of those annoying tourists. Although, I have never bought a San Fran tee shirt or sweatshirt.

I've never been to SF, unless it is blurred with Berkeley, where I visited a summer or two ago. If I ever go again. I will definitely visit YOU!

My husband, too, is often suggesting blog topics (as well as book topics). I just nod and smile and say, “Thank you, Honey.” Sometimes, though, I do have to admit he's got some good stuff! haha Good luck with the job situation…

Sorry to learn you lost your job. It's tough out there but i hope you and your husband will be able to find work soon. Yes, SF weather is not as lovely as some parts of CA. We were lucky about two or three years ago. Our first trip to the bay area and we chose late July to do it in. Everyone we knew warned us about the chilly and potentially rainy weather in SF. We took jackets just in case- could you believe, we only used them once at night time? The weather was perfectly warm the three days we were there. On the morning we left we had finally seen the famous fog. Beautiful!

I've been to SF in the summer (and winter and …) since i did graduate school in Berkeley across the bay. People would come to visit and we'd cross the bridge and they'd buy a sweatshirt too.

My wife also keeps bringing up things I should blog about – which just makes it less likely to happen.

Bad news for the Unknown Parents, but great news for Put Pie.

I remember watching winter baseball in Candlestick Park in July or August. If you stayed until the end of the game, which most didn't, you received a special hat pin at the gate denoting “survivor” status.

No matter what time of year it is in SF, it's always a good idea to take a sweater “just in case” (geeze, I sound like my mother).

I spent every summer of my childhood in San Francisco. I love going back. It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
