Immortality for only $14

by UnknownMami on June 30, 2011

You know how some people have songs written about them? I’ve always wanted to have a book written about me. Yup, I grew up fantasizing that someone would be so inspired by me that one day they would immortalize me in the pages of a book.

Turns out, I don’t have to wait for someone else to do it. I can do it myself and for only $14. Juice in the City has got a great deal for a Personalized Story Book from Flattenme.

I think this is a great gift idea for kids, dads, or me!

(Click on the picture to see details for this deal.)

This deal runs through 7/2/2011 (while supplies last) and is $14 for a $28 value on a Personalized Story Book from Flattenme.

This is a sponsored post for which I will receive compensation. All statements and opinions are mine.

Fragmented Fridays

by UnknownMami on June 30, 2011

I started a series on friendship this week that will run on Mondays and Tuesdays for the next few weeks. It’s been really touching to read what my friends have to say about me and to sit down and put into words how special they are to me.

This has really gotten me thinking about friendship. I used to make friends at school, then at work, and then my life changed and the making of friends slowed down. Sometimes I make friends with other parents on the playground, but not that often. Thanks to the wonders of the internet and my beautiful blogging community, in the last couple of years, I’ve made a bunch of friends online.

That’s right people “friends”. They are my friends, not my “online” friends; just my friends. No qualifier needed. And for all those naysayers that think online friendships aren’t “real”, I have picture proof that they are.

I met Mrs. 4444 pretty early on in my blogging career, so about 2 years ago. I’ve learned about her wonderful mother, her beautiful children, her funny husband, and some of her student’s antics. This past Sunday, I got to see my friend in person and give her a hug.

022

I also got to meet her son Kyle.

004

I don’t know why, but I think Kyle would make an excellent Captain.

003

It was so much fun to meet them and spend a little bit of time with them. They were crazy busy and I appreciate them making the effort to meet a goofy blogger with a paper bag over her head.

Although, I think they might have been on a secret mission to recruit Packers fans because they left Put Pie with a cute teddy bear wearing Packers clothing. The teddy bear talks and I’m pretty sure it’s telling her to be a Packers fan. Don’t tell the SF 49ers.

Once when my brother was 10 he said, “Your friends are so great?” I answered, “That’s because I get to choose them.” I’ve chosen really well and I consider myself quite lucky.

And now your Friday Fortune Cookie (don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):

The Thrill of the Hunt

by UnknownMami on June 30, 2011

I’m a hunter. Always have been, always will be! There is nothing like the thrill of the hunt. My pulse quickens just at the thought of it. I hunt no matter what the season. My prey of choice…BARGAINS! I am an unabashed bargain hunter. No license or weapon required (but if they were, I bet you I could get a great deal on them).

Like many hunters, I proudly display my trophies and regale friends and strangers alike with stories about savings that where “this big” (imagine me stretching my arms as far as possible)! I can’t count the number of times someone compliments me on something and I practically shout out the price I paid for it because I am so proud of how little I spent. That’s why I am so excited to tell you about my latest endeavor.

I am partnering with Juice in the City to let you know about some great local deals. Juice in the City is a daily deal site. Daily deal sites are becoming very popular and it seems that a new one pops up…well, almost daily. What makes Juice in the City different than say Groupon is that all deals are sourced by local moms so you save locally, support local businesses, and help local moms like me earn a decent living. The deals are sweet because moms know best (sometimes a cliché is a cliché because it’s true).

I realize that my “local” may not be your “local”. No worries, Juice in the City is already in over a dozen areas and expanding quickly; if they haven’t reached your city yet, they will.

Are you a bargain hunter? If so, happy hunting!

Inappropriate Much?

by UnknownMami on June 29, 2011

So the other day I want to find a way to edu-tain my toddler while I ride my stationary bike. I decide to go online and look for Pocoyo videos. Pocoyo is an animated character that speaks Spanish. I’m doing my best to teach both of my daughters Spanish, but it’s tough when I’m the only one around them that speaks it. Perfect, right? I can get some exercise and my daughter can watch some ‘toons in Spanish and see that it’s not only a language her mother speaks.

Anyway, I go to Google and ask it to find me some Pocoyo videos for free, but I know nothing is truly free and I’m prepared to deal with some advertising. No biggie. I hit the jackpot at Dailymotion.com; they’ve got all kinds of Pocoyo videos. I put one on and sure enough we have to watch an ad first, for get this: Plan B birth control. I find this an odd choice for a kids video. Are they trying to get my kid to bug me incessantly until I buy Plan B birth control? It’s a little late for that option as far as I’m concerned and I’m hoping my daughter won’t have any need for it in the immediate future.

She watched a few Pocoyo videos that day and they were all advertising Plan B. Every time the ad would play my daughter said, “What happening, Mama?” I don’t really want to get into a conversation with an almost 3 year old about unplanned pregnancy and how sometimes your regular birth control might fail, so you might need a back up in the next 72 hours. So I just said, “Oh, it’s a commercial.”

Before writing this post, I went back to see if maybe the inappropriate advertising was just a one time deal. Nope. Today I got an ad for beer. I have no problem with birth control or beer or ads for either, but honestly shouldn’t you know your target audience? Choose appropriate advertisers. I really think the advertisers are wasting their money because there is no way that my daughter is going to be able to buy Budweiser at the corner store without a fake ID and even then I don’t think she can open the cooler by herself.

June 27, 2011

Fragmented Fridays

June 23, 2011

Sometimes I get irritated because all Unknown Papi has to do is take the kids to the store on his own and someone will stop him to congratulate him on being a great father. I’ve never once had a stranger come up to me on a regular day and tell me I’m being a great [...]

June 20, 2011

Wow, it has been forever since I’ve done an “I Comment Therefore I Am” post. The idea is to put together a post from comments I’ve left on other blogs or comments that have been left on mine because much of the beauty of blogging is wrapped up in the comments. Today, I have only [...]
