Fragmented Fridays

by UnknownMami on February 17, 2012

Things will be looking a little wonky around here the next couple of days. This blog is a DIY project for me that I get to do when my 3 year-old and 1 year-old aren’t in desperate need of me.

Doing it all on my own is great because I get to learn a bunch of technical stuff that I would otherwise be oblivious to. Doing it all on my own sucks because sometimes even though I’m very careful, I mess up something that was working just fine and I have no one to blame but myself.

Last night, I thought I would play around with a plugin that was supposed to wow you with my fabulous content; instead, I somehow broke the functionality of certain parts of my theme. I was so mad that I fired myself, then I realized nothing would get done without me so I hired myself back, but I’m on probation.

All this to say, forgive appearances while I clean up my mess! You are still welcome to come over, but things won’t be tidy. You may bump your toes on some widgets as I move them around.

*Update: It’s fixed until I break it again.

And now your Friday Fortune Cookie
(don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):

Embrace change; it’s bound to happen.

hired fired yourself – just remember to give yourself a good performance review.
You run this on wordpress – right?

      Yeah, I’m self-hosted on WordPress.org.

You crack me up with your firing and re-hiring of yourself. After the probationary period, maybe you will get a raise.

I doubt it, I’m a pretty tough boss.

I HATE HATE HATE when that happens.  I’m sure you’ll work it all out.

I know you’ve through it. My head hurts, but I will figure it out. If I had $$$, I’d let someone else figure it out.

It all looks fine to me, but I do hate it when I jam up my blog in some way, so you have my empathy.

I think I’m getting it back to normal, five minutes at a time. I couldn’t get one thing back that I created no matter how hard I tried so I give up on that.

I had trouble redoing my blog too…. but there is no one else to do it.  It looks good to me!

Hire and fired!  Love it!  I don’t think I could do half of what you do on this marvelous website!  I don’t have the time to work on it every day, so I will hang back until summer, and then go for it.  I love what you’ve done, and what you are doing with it. I think you should pat yourself on the back for a great job! Maybe once you figure it out, you can give us all a tutorial…in Spanish.  Hell, I don’t think I’d understand it in English, so why not? Enjoy your baby girls and papi this weekend!

Those thing happen.  I once totally killed off my commenting system while I was messing around with html.  You do a great job, you will figure it all out soon.  I have confidence in you.  Firing and re-hiring yourself cracked me up ;-)

You do good work, kid!  I’d break the entire internet if I even thought about messing with mine.

Hmm…if ever you need a testimonial, I am here to give it. So lets celebrate with a flask of coffee just the way you like it – the exact shade of that brown paper bag. Hugs to you.

I am vacillating between staying on blogger and moving to wordpress, but am a little scared to do it all on my own. Time being the big constraint, not a lack of willingness to work it.

I say do it. I did it on my own and had very little time. The good thing is that if you go with self-hosted, you can work on the design offline while you are still on Blogger and take your time until it is all set up, then switch over. I will always be glad that I switched and on my own if for no other reason than it was a great learning experience.

You crack me up!  (fired then re-hired yourself)  I completely understand though…. I’m not good at the technical side of blogging and designing…

Every time I touch my blog, which is all the time, I have the feeling I’m going to destroy it forever. Sometimes I even worrying about logging myself out, incase I can’t log back in again. :D

Oh honey, I do that all the time… I’m wordpress.org as well… but I’m usually pretty careful not to fire myself just in case I decide I don’t want the job that much after all and I choose not to come back when I’m inevitably forced to rehire myself. That would really suck for me…

I’m proud of you. I have somehow screwed up my FB Fan page plug-in and I have NO idea how to fix it.  :-)

I have been having trouble with comment verification, I wish I was technical! Apologies for not calling by to comment very often, time just seems to get swallowed up by real life at present!

I like to tinker on mine as well and I’m no expert but here’s a quick tip. I tend to open a notepad and copy paste the code of whatever it is I want to play with. Then when I play with code and breaker something I can start over from the notepad. Just a little trick to prevent anything from breaking too bad on your site!
