Pop Quiz!!!
Can you correctly label the major parts of the eye using the words below?
I found the above quiz as well as coloring pages, a Memory Match game, and a lot more family fun and educational activities on the Transitions children’s website, Eye Didn’t Know That en (Español Yo No Sabia Eso). My favorite part of the website is the Eye Food Treats under Family Activities. There are great recipes that will help you incorporate eye-healthy foods into your life. You probably knew that carrots are good for your eyes, but did you know that popcorn is good for them too?
Another thing that is good for your eyes is getting regular check-ups. A recent study by Transitions Optical’s Healthy Sight Institute found that diabetes is the number one cause of blindness in the U.S. in patients ages 24- 74 years old? Did you also know that the incidence of diabetes is higher among Hispanic/Latino Americans?
Transitions Optical has partnered with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to educate and motivate consumers nation wide to visit an eye doctor regularly to help with early detection of visual conditions. One of the motivators they are offering is free screenings which have so far taken place in L.A. and Chicago with an upcoming one at the ADA Expo in New York City on November 3rd.
I know that cost is a big factor for many (including myself) when it comes to eye health. If you are in the New York area please stop by the Transitions Optical booth at the ADA Expo for free vision screenings for you and your family and to learn more about proper eye care and its connection to diabetes. I hope that as many people as possible are able to avail themselves of the free screenings. It would be nice to see the program continue and expand. You can also visit the Transitions website for more information about the connection between eye health and diabetes and to find an eye doctor near you.
This is part of a sponsored campaign with Latina Mom Bloggers and Transitions Optical. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
