There is a picture of Martin Luther King, Jr. in my daughter’s preschool. One day when I go to pick her up, my daughter points to the picture and says, “Mama, mama, his dream came true!”
When I ask her what his dream was, she tells me that his dream was that “everybody would be nice to everybody.” There was a part of me that wanted to tell her, that it is still a dream in progress, but her face was so unbelievably excited to share the good news with me that I smiled and thanked her for telling me.
I’m not sure that I even knew about Martin Luther King, Jr. when I was 4. I’m glad my daughter does. That’s progress.
