Award

Me, Charming? Why Thank You!

by UnknownMami on June 30, 2009

Recently, I was given the same award by two lovely bloggers Pink Peony and Nori at This Casual Life. The award is given to blogs that are “charming”. I am touched by this award because I have always striven to be charming.

When I was little if anyone told me that I was pretty, I would say, “I am not pretty, I’m charming” in Spanish I would say, “No soy bonita, soy simpática.” I felt that pretty was something that was out of my hands, but being charming was more in my control. I’ve waited decades to be recognized for my charm.

So it is with great honor that I accept this award. The text of the award reads:

This award is bestowed to blogs that are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.”

I am to bestow the award on to eight bloggers. Here are my charming picks:

Pink Peony: I know she gave me the award and therefore already has it. Don’t care! I’m giving it to her anyway because I think she’s charming damn it!*

Nori at This Casual Life: Again, she gave me the award so I am aware that she already has it, but in my short life as a blogger has lavished me with her charm and kindness. *

Isabel Princes at Mommy is in the Bathroom: I chose Isabel because she is hilarious and makes me laugh and what could be more charming than that?

Tammy Howard at Keep in Touch with Mommakin: Tammy gets the award because she is just awesome. She is a great writer, crafty, and I just look forward to reading her posts and hearing from her.

Single Mama NYC: I just gave this lovely lady an award, but I like her so much she gets this one too. One day the planets aligned and she found me and I found her. We keep finding out that we have so many things in common. We even share the same birthday.

Heidi at Life with Oatmeal: I have known Heidi since high school and have always been aware of her intelligence, but recently I have really come to admire her grace and charm during trying times.

Sneaky Momma Blog Design: Have you been to this blog? It’s an easy to follow tutorial of free tips. What could be more charming than helping others for free?

And last but not least, ME: That’s right, I’m giving myself the award too. Why not? If I can recognize charm in others why not in myself? (So much for not being interested in self-aggrandizement.)

Ladies, enjoy your award!

I U!

*Ladies you are not expected to pass on the award again. I just wanted you to be aware that I find you to be exceedingly charming.

Yay Me!

by UnknownMami on June 13, 2009

Isabel Princes at Mommy is in the Bathroom has made me the proud recipient of The Honest Scrap Award. Yay Me! Muchisimas gracias!

This award comes with responsibilities. “Heavy is the head that wears the crown.” I am to list 10 things about myself that are true and that most people don’t know and then tag five other bloggers. It’s sort of like an award chain letter.

1. I once played the accordion with Lawrence Welk.

2. I do my 9′s times table with my hands.

3. I took a Greyhound bus on a winding trip from San Diego to Boston for 6,666 miles. I thought I would get to see this beautiful country. All I saw was highways and ugly bus stations. Worst trip ever! I’m convinced I held hands with a leper; he fell down and I took his hand to help him up and I kid you not a chunk of his hand stayed in my hand when I let go.

4. I can not stand ordering pizza for delivery. I love to eat it when it arrives, but I will do anything to avoid having to order it. I don’t mind ordering any other kind of food.

5. I do not have a middle name.

6. Danny Aiello gave me a hug in the parking lot of Jerry’s Deli in LA when I was a teenager. He approached me.

7. I love big noses. I find them unbelievably sexy.

8. I hate it when people say, “I could care less”; it should be “I couldn’t care less”. If you could care less, then it means you care and the point is that you don’t care.

9. I never believed in Santa Claus, but I “knew” the Easter Bunny existed because he would leave these great candy-filled baskets in my room. Until one year when my mom came to tuck me in the night before Easter and told me she was sorry, but she didn’t have any money to buy me a basket. I was in shock, but I managed to tell her it was ok. As soon as she left the room, I started bawling, not because I wasn’t getting a basket, but because I was crushed that the Easter Bunny wasn’t real.

10. I have two matching birthmarks where the sun don’t shine.

Now as far as passing on the award, if Isabel Princes hadn’t given me the award I would definitely be giving it to her (check out her blog, you’ll like it). My picks are NYC Mama, This Casual Life., Under the Sheets- shhh, N.E.O. Moms, and Spanish Knitting Blog.

Alright ladies, collect your award and fulfill your duties or don’t, it’s up to you. And remember, “With great power comes great responsibility.”
