How to Add a Watermark Using Windows Live Writer

by UnknownMami on March 27, 2012

I use Windows Live Writer to upload most of my photos for blog posts because it provides an easy and convenient way to add a watermark to all my photos. Not only is it easy, you can also set the watermark to default so you don’t actually have to do it for each individual photo. Live Writer will just remember your preference and do it for you.

Here’s how I do it (I’m assuming you’ve already downloaded Live Writer and are slightly familiar with it, if not don’t worry it’s not hard and it’s free).

  • When in Live Writer, insert a photo into your post, then select/click on it to bring up the “Picture” ribbon.

Just Say No to Internet Explorer

by UnknownMami on February 27, 2012

I try to keep things positive around here, but every once in awhile I let myself rant. Today I’m ranting about Internet Explorer. That browser drives me crazy and likes to make my online life harder than it needs to be. I broke up with IE a long time ago and good riddance, I say. Still so many people still use it that I can not be completely free of it. I use it at work and I use it to check that this blog is working appropriately for those of you still on IE. I say “still” because my hope is that someday you will explore your browsing options and move on.

This is not my actual rant, my anti-IE-rant is at Aiming Low. Please stop by and give it a read. I am not a techie by any means, but I don’t think you need to be a techie to see the flaws in IE.

Fragmented Fridays

by UnknownMami on February 17, 2012

Things will be looking a little wonky around here the next couple of days. This blog is a DIY project for me that I get to do when my 3 year-old and 1 year-old aren’t in desperate need of me.

Doing it all on my own is great because I get to learn a bunch of technical stuff that I would otherwise be oblivious to. Doing it all on my own sucks because sometimes even though I’m very careful, I mess up something that was working just fine and I have no one to blame but myself.

Last night, I thought I would play around with a plugin that was supposed to wow you with my fabulous content; instead, I somehow broke the functionality of certain parts of my theme. I was so mad that I fired myself, then I realized nothing would get done without me so I hired myself back, but I’m on probation.

All this to say, forgive appearances while I clean up my mess! You are still welcome to come over, but things won’t be tidy. You may bump your toes on some widgets as I move them around.

*Update: It’s fixed until I break it again.

And now your Friday Fortune Cookie
(don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):

Embrace change; it’s bound to happen.

Google, Quit Freakin’ Me Out!

February 6, 2012

Google, as I have mentioned before, I totally dig your search engine; it’s the tops. I pretty much use it everyday and think it’s way better than the 1/4 set of Encyclopedia Britannica I grew up with (I could only ever do reports on things at the beginning of the alphabet). As far as your search [...]

Hope in a Paper Bag

February 2, 2012

Latinos, like bloggers, are a diverse and eclectic group. One of us certainly can not speak for all of us. Our strength and beauty is in our diversity. As a Latina and a blogger I would love to attend Hispanicize 2012. Why? Because it would be a great opportunity to mingle with Latino trendsetters in [...]

Post Blackout Blues

January 18, 2012

From 8am to 8pm on 1/18/12, the plan was for this site to go dark in protest to SOPA and PIPA and dark it went. And then 8pm rolled around and it stayed dark. WTH? I used the Simple Stop Sopa Plugin and it was supposed to do everything for me. Simple, right? It was [...]

Fragmented Fridays

January 6, 2012

I’ve been blogging for almost 3 years now and I still have no idea what I’m doing. There are times when I meticulously work on a post or write about something that I think people will be interested in and those posts get minimal attention. Then other times I just dash something off and those [...]

Open Email to Google

November 29, 2011

Dear Google, My head is spinning. You are going through so many changes, which means that by default I will be going through so many changes. I have to tell you that I’m freaking out a bit about the pending disconnection of Google Friend Connect for non-Blogger blogs. I would love more information about how [...]

Google Friend Disconnect

November 28, 2011

Google has announced that it is discontinuing Google Friend Connect for non-Blogger blogs come March of 2012. WHAT THE FUNK! Over 700 of you follow this blog via GFC and I’m getting the shakes thinking my feed will disappear from your dashboards or readers. It will be a sad and lonely blog without you. So [...]
