I’m Nesting

by UnknownMami on December 21, 2010

I’ve been reorganizing the house like crazy. Getting rid of things. Trying to reduce clutter. Also, setting up my home so that I truly enjoy being in every room.

Like many, we are strapped and have had to cut down on most luxuries. I am not complaining because we are warm, fed, clothed, housed, and together. We spend most of our time at home because it’s just cheaper to be home than not to be. I love my home, but I can get really overwhelmed with all the stuff that accumulates. We have very little storage space and a toddler that loves to spread all her things around. We also have another little girl on the way.

Where am I going to put more stuff?

Last week, I had a mini-break down because I realized I just had to get rid of a bunch of things. Let them go. For some people (my husband), parting with objects is no biggie. I seem to imbue objects with far too much significance and therefore have a hard time parting with them. Well, after shedding a few tears (give me a break, I’m pregnant) I realized that these things have served me well, but now they no longer work in my life. It’s just stuff, it’s not memories, or promises, or unrealized potential.

In getting rid of things I no longer need, I made room for things that will serve me better. The Universe noticed and sent me some gifts via messengers. Out of the blue my MIL decided to give us a couch and I love it! I can stretch out on it and when I’m not stretched out on it or snuggle with both my husband and daughter.

Since we got a new couch for the living room, we decided to put our small love seat in the kitchen and create a little lounging nook. My husband thinks it’s great because now we hang out with him while he cooks.

Another home improvement was facilitated by my friends at CSN Stores. They sent me a toy chest to review. You might not think a toy chest would be very exciting, but both my husband and I were thrilled by it. This is what we were using before:

004

Tell me this isn’t a vast improvement:

We dig it! It certainly beats a pink see-through plastic tub. It was easy to put together (especially since I made my BIL do it), it fits far more toys than the plastic tub did, and someday I could use it for something other than toys.

My home just keeps getting better and better. Let’s hope the trend continues.

Disclosure: I received a free toy chest from CSN Stores to facilitate this review. No other compensation was received. The opinions are mine.

I’m in a Relationship

by UnknownMami on October 12, 2010

Did you know that I’m in a relationship? No, I’m not talking about my husband, but he knows about it and he’s fine with it. It’s been going on for a few months and I have to say it has been very satisfying on my end. I guess my “partner” is satisfied too because he (or is it a she?) keeps coming back for more. As a matter of fact, even though I’m not into labels, I’m happy to say that my partner considers me a “Preferred Blogger”. That’s right I’m a CSN Stores “Preferred Blogger”, which means I get the opportunity to do giveaways or reviews on a regular basis. This time around I am being offered the chance to do a review and I’m pretty darned excited. If I weren’t pregnant I might consider checking out some bar stools. I’ve been with my husband for almost 10 years (married for 3) and for some reason he has always wanted bar stools. I don’t know why, since we don’t have a bar. Maybe he thinks that if we get bar stools, we’ll have to set up a bar.

The thing is, I am pregnant and babies need certain paraphernalia. I haven’t gotten anything for this baby yet because I have gotten some worrisome reports from my doctors, but maybe it’s time to take a leap of faith and just believe that everything is going to be okay and start getting ready. CSN Stores consists of over 200 stores and there is quite a bit of baby gear to be found amongst them, so I was thinking maybe I could review one of these:

My next ultrasound is on Monday and if the news continues to trend toward better, then I think I just might be able to bring myself to start preparing for the best-case scenario. I’ll keep you posted.

What would you do with $60?

by UnknownMami on June 10, 2010

If you had an extra $60 burning a whole in your pocket what would you do with it? Pay bills? Boo! What if there were conditions? One of the conditions is that you spend the money shopping. Would you put the money toward the purchase of a vanity?

We Like Them!

by UnknownMami on April 21, 2010

I was given the opportunity to review an item from CSN Stores and although they have an enormous selection with over 200 stores, it was pretty easy for me to decide on an item because we happened to be in the market for glass storage containers. We want to eliminate plastic storage containers that leach chemicals into your food.

About a week ago, I received Kinetic Go Green  GlassLock containers.  As soon as I got them out of the box, I thought they were great. I got 3 square and 3 rectangular containers in assorted sizes. Being the  spoiled liberated woman that I am, my husband does most of the cooking and the kitchen is much more his domain than mine, so I left the containers on the counter for him to check out when he got home and then I forgot about them until I heard my husband say, “Wow, these are nice!”

Why are they nice?

  • Tempered glass construction
  • Silicone-sealed lids create air and liquid-tight seal
  • Microwave, dishwasher, and freezer safe
  • Eco-friendly non-toxic materials

I asked my husband if there was anything he didn’t like about them and he said, “Nope, they’re great.” Then he asked me if they were oven safe. They are not. He then said, “They are almost perfect. If they were oven safe they would be perfect.”  So there you have it; they are almost perfect, but perfect enough for us to be thrilled with them.

I received the above pictured Kinetic GO Green Glass containers in exchange for this review. There was no monetary compensation. The opinions are my husband’s and mine. If I didn’t like them, I would tell you. For full disclosure policy click HERE.

Shopping and Me

March 30, 2010

Something I haven’t shared with you before is how much I like to shop. Or technically how much I used to love to shop. Before I became a mother, shopping was something I did a lot of on a regular basis. I am a gifted shopper. Or shall I say I was a gifted shopper. [...]
