Look Who’s Walking

by UnknownMami on March 21, 2012

I can’t believe I forgot to tell you that my baby, Luna Pie, is walking. She’s been doing it for close to 2 weeks now.

As it turns out, I missed her first steps even though I was in the same room as her when she took them. I was folding laundry and the TV was on. My hands were on the laundry, my eyes were on the TV, Luna Pie was standing next to me and all of a sudden she was in front of me taking the last of what had been probably 10 steps. I hit rewind in my peripheral memory vision and realized that her head had never left what is standing level for her. I was so bummed. I wasn’t even watching something good like, Let’s Make a Deal. I don’t even like watching TV during the day. I blame it on the laundry.

Now, for your viewing pleasure…

Her joy and perserverance remind me that you should focus on the journey, not the destination.

A Smashing Success

by UnknownMami on March 19, 2012

When my husband works, I stay home with the kids. When I work, he stays home with the kids. Most weeks we are lucky to have 1 day off together as a whole family. This past weekend the stars aligned and we both had Saturday and Sunday off.

We took that as a sign from the Universe that we were meant to take a road trip. We loaded up the car and headed to Sacramento to visit with family. We ate had fun, ate some more, had more fun, and went to sleep.

Sunday we woke up feeling our trip had been a smashing success and ready to have a little more fun before heading back to San Francisco. Unknown Papi goes to pack up the car and finds that our trip was undeniably smashing.

Our driver’s side window had been smashed to smithereens. We have no idea by whom or what or even what the intention was. No one had been in the car and nothing in the car had been taken, so theft did not appear to be the motive. My theory is that some drunken St. Patrick’s Day revelers got a little too wild. It’s all supposition on my side.

We were bummed and our plans went from having more fun, to getting the window replaced before we left. It turns out that we will have to spend one more evening in Sacramento.

I guess the Universe wanted us  to spend more time together as a family. Thanks Universe. Next time could you just have us win the lottery or something?

The Big Reveal

by UnknownMami on January 16, 2012

For almost 3 years I’ve been blogging with a paper bag over my head. I have revealed myself and bits and pieces of my family through my writing, but I’ve never given you a good look at our faces. Until today!

This is what we look like in knit.

He Did it Again

December 29, 2011

Remember my brother, the heroin addict? He left his family (wife and 5 year old son) to go to rehab and get better. He came back after 6 months. I knew he was back, but honestly had no desire to talk to him. Why? Because even after 6 months of rehab, I felt skeptical. When [...]

Luna Pie’s First Christmas

December 28, 2011

My one kidney wonder is thriving and enjoyed her very first Christmas. Oh and on Christmas Eve she gave me her first deliberate baby kisses: a slobbery joy! For those of you that don’t know, Luna Pie was born with only one kidney after what seemed like many weeks of not knowing [...]

Spanking

November 8, 2011

Parenting is difficult. There is not one right way to do it, but there seems to be a whole lot of wrong ways. All you can do is follow your gut, try to be informed, and proceed with love and caution. Right now, one of the parenting issues I am struggling with is discipline and [...]

Happy Day of the Dead and Halloween Recap

November 1, 2011

Feliz Día de los Muertos! Celebrate your dearly departed and remember that death is a part of life.   Put Pie decided to be a lady bug and had a wonderful time trick or treating for the first time. She also got to witness firsthand the perils of drinking and flying. I don’t think she [...]

1 to 4

August 30, 2011

I was one and then you came along and we became 2. 2 was the best until we were ready to become 3. 3 was phenomenal until we wanted more, so we became 4. 4 feels just right.   And for years I thought I was bad at math. How’s your math?
