Mess to Masterpiece

by UnknownMami on April 23, 2012

You know what it feels like I do all day long? It feels like all day long I’m picking up trash. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old, but I’ll be honest and say that it’s the 1 year old that keeps me busy all day. She likes to rip things apart, leave trails of debris in her wake. If she eats, half of it ends up on the floor and I have to pick it up before she steps on it and then tries to eat it. For a little person she makes a lot of garbage.

What’s a Mami to do? I just have to embrace that I am the mother of a wonderfully wild child that makes messes. I recycle and reuse what I can and for the messes (diapers included) that must end up in the garbage, I’m grateful for a garbage bag that can hold its own. There is nothing worse than transporting garbage in a bag that tears when I’m only halfway to the basement where the garbage is collected. [Click for more...]

ZeroWater Pitcher Review and #Giveaway

by UnknownMami on April 18, 2012

My drink of choice is water straight up! Stirred or shaken, doesn’t matter. What does matter is that it be as clean and free of contaminants as possible. Filtered San Francisco tap water is what my family and I consume. I committed to tap water because it’s better for the environment than buying bottled water. But is San Francisco tap or any other tap better for me and my family?

002

How do I know if the tap water I’m drinking is “clean” and safe for my family to drink even after it has been filtered? [Click for more...]

Fresh Produce

by UnknownMami on April 5, 2012

I love clothes. Love them! I get excited about wearing something new, but lately I haven’t been getting very many new clothes. I’m having a hard time adjusting to the way my body and my lifestyle have changed since having two kids. I still love low-rise skinny jeans, but I don’t really fit into them the same way I used to and with all the bending over that being a mother of a 3 and 1-year-old requires, I need something that covers what’s supposed to be covered if you know what I mean.

Dresses are becoming my go to item of clothing. I’m always on the lookout for a great dress that I can wear around the kids that is comfortable and makes me look like I put a little effort into getting dressed.

When I was asked by Fresh Produce Clothing if I would be interested in reviewing one of their items all I had to do was take a quick look at their selection of spring dresses for women to know that the answer would be, “Yes!”

Fragmented Fridays

by UnknownMami on February 24, 2012

Unknown Papi is always telling me that I should go out and he’ll watch the kids. Honestly, most of the time I am too tired to go out. I’d be in heaven if he would watch the kids while I hung out in the bedroom and spent some quality time with my laptop, but if I’m home somehow it is impossible to get any “off” time. It just isn’t going to happen. So when I was offered the chance (via this blog) to see a screening of the movie Friends with Kids, and it happened to be a night that Unknown Papi wasn’t working, I thought it was the Universe saying, “Mami, go out and have some fun!”

So accompanied by a friend and a tub of popcorn, to the screening I went. Tired as I am, I probably wouldn’t have made the effort to go if it weren’t for the excellent cast which stars Adam Scott (“Parks and Recreation”), Jennifer Westfeldt (who also wrote and directed the film), Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Chris O’Dowd, Megan Fox and Edward Burns.

The movie officially opens March 9th 2012 and, I guess, would be classified as a romantic comedy, but really it is more serious than that. I was surprised by the emotional depth of some of the scenes. Quite frankly, I enjoyed the second half of the movie more than the first. The first half was funnier and it’s not that I didn’t enjoy it, it’s just that the second half rang truer. Life is not a comedy or a romance or a tragedy; it’s all those things at once and the second half of Friends with Kids seems to embrace that truth.

I had a great time with my friend who also has 2 kids almost the same exact ages as mine. I left the house without all the usual paraphernalia and felt like I was traveling light. It was strange to have full use of both of my arms and hands.

Unknown Papi is right, I do need to make more of an effort to get out with friends even though I’m tired. The truth is that I’m tired no matter what and even though I was out, in a way it was relaxing because for a couple of hours I was only responsible for me.

And now your Friday Fortune Cookie
(don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):

You will be invited to an exciting event.

I Made a Weeknight Dinner Special with #BertolliMealSoup

February 12, 2012

Perhaps I’ve fooled you into thinking that I am near perfect. Somehow I manage to blog regularly, care for two small children, work outside of the home 2 days a week, keep my home running smoothly, and my family well-fed. Naw, you probably know that I cut as many corners as possible (hopefully not on [...]

Ride to Nowhere

January 10, 2012

Remember that song by Talking Heads? My adaptation goes something like this: I’m on a ride to nowhere Ridin’ inside Peddlin’ my bike to nowhere I’ll take that ride The inspiration for my version is this stationary bike: This Body Flex-X Bike-XRB 100 came into my life late last year. At the time I was [...]

When Put Pie was a few months old, I started using sign language with her. I found videos at the library, looked up signs online, and looked on youtube. I picked words that we used regularly like: more, eat, milk, dog, flower, tree, bird, socks, and shoes. The very first sign that she did was [...]

Soda pop is not good for you. You know that, right? I grew up addicted to soda and it was not an easy habit to kick. I drink plenty of water, I love water, can’t get enough of water, it is my drink of choice, but every once in awhile I want some fizz in [...]

Dan-o-nino and $50 VISA Gift Card Giveaway

September 19, 2011

Getting Put Pie, my three year old, to try any new food is almost impossible. She likes to stick to the basic food groups of red roasted hummus, potatoes, rice, and bananas. She’ll get pretty adventurous with her potatoes, she’ll eat them as fries or mashed (don’t tell her I sneak broccoli or cauliflower into [...]

Pa’Lante

September 14, 2011

September 15 kicks off the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month. It might seem a little odd to start a month-long celebration mid-month, but September 15 was chosen as the starting point because it happens to be the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries. The festivities continue until October 15. I’m in the [...]
