Tomorrow UnknownMami.com will be joining websites such as MoveOn.org, Wikipedia, and Reddit by going dark as a protest against the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) in the Senate.
Should I be worried that my husband started a conversation like this, “I’m straight, I’m really straight, but I saw this guy last night…”?
I’m not worried, but tell me that is not hilarious. Apparently, this guy that he saw was ridiculously good looking, the kind of good looking you just don’t see every day.
My husband is good looking so I do see good lookin’ every day, but I wouldn’t mind seeing more.
I’ve had a longstanding and documented feud with Word Verification. Just because I don’t write about it every week doesn’t mean it’s not going on behind the scenes. Most of the time I don’t want to give her free publicity, but sometimes she just goes too far. For example…
Seriously, who does she think she is telling me to suck her lump?! That’s right WV, the jig is up, everyone now knows that you are not only annoying, but crass!
And now your Friday Fortune Cookie (don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):
When I started this blog I had no idea that it would lead to other exciting opportunities. I just needed a place to be creative, share, and interact. This blog and YOU have given me that and so much more. Because of your wonderful support and encouragement, I find myself all over the dial at the moment. I’m thrilled to be generating some income to help support my family while doing something that I love: writing.
Thank you for turning me into a freelance writer at the age of 40! This is not a career path I ever imagined for myself and that just goes to show that sometimes the Universe is more generous with us than we are with ourselves.
Here are couple of the wonderful endeavors that I am involved in because of you:
I’m writing a series of posts for CafeMom loosely centered around the theme, “Growing Up Latino” where I share how I plan to infuse our holiday traditions with my Latino background even though my husband is not Latino. My first two post, The Holidays are Coming! and It’s All Good, are up and I would love your reactions.
I’ve also been enjoying getting my funny on at Aiming Low. My most recent post there, My Husband Does Not Speak Spanish, makes fun of my husband (which he totally doesn’t deserve, but I’m all about the easy laughs).
I realize you have already given me so much, but if you get a chance please stop by and check me out at the other venues you have opened up to me. I am not kidding when I say that I could not have done this without you. The above opportunities are examples of gigs that I got directly because of the connections that I have made through this blog. So again….
THANK YOU!
I will do my best to make you proud and deserve all the great things you’ve sent my way.
It is all about perspective my friends. I have always known this. We all know this on some level. There are countless sayings meant to inspire a positive outlook, sayings about silver linings and glasses being half full. Life is far more rewarding if you embrace the positive. Sometimes we just need to be reminded.
Well guess what?! I get to remind you!!! Yup, I have been appointed a Positivity Ambassador by the California Milk Processor’s Board. What’s that you say, you’ve never heard of a Positivity Ambassador? You do not know what a Positivity Ambassador does? I’ll tell you what this Positivity Ambassador is going to do, I am going to remind you that the glass is indeed half full. I’ll remind you to look at all the positivity that surrounds you and I also get to tell you about milk and why I love it. As far as I’m concerned any day that ends with an ice cold glass of milk and some cookies was a positive day (I end most of my days with this ritual).
When I was approached about this campaign I was so excited because I really do love milk (I drink local organic milk every day) and I do my very best to have and encourage a positive attitude with a bit of humor. Humor speaks to my soul and keeps me positive.
I find that wisdom often comes in the guise of humor, that’s why I am thrilled to introduce you to the “Master of the Glass Half Full” (Maestro del Vaso Medio Lleno).
He is a riot! His inspirational journey from negativity to positivity is chronicled on Facebook. Aren’t we all on that journey? And like any modern day guru you can also follow him on Twitter. Here is the first peak I ever got of the Master of the Glass Half Full and he managed to make me smile within 14 seconds:
Now the Master of the Glass Half Full may make you laugh, but he is not a fool. This man is wise, profound, and somehow simple at the same time. He is also eminently quotable. For example,
“For every angry minute, you miss 60 seconds of happiness. Your daily glass of Positivism.”
You see what I’m talking about? Tell, me he’s not absolutely right with that observation.
What do you do to keep yourself positive? Share your tips with me and I’ll drink to your health with ice cold glass of milk (and some cookies on the side).
Disclosure: This is part of a sponsored campaign with the California Milk Processor’s Board and Latina Mom Bloggers.

You know how they say that if you die in your dreams, you will die in real life? Well, it’s not true. I know because I died in my dream once and I’m here to tell the story. I had this dream years ago. I was at a table in a restaurant with my mother, [...]
